Fishponds CE Academy says NO to bullying!

At Fishponds CE Academy everything we do is rooted in our vision of love.

‘Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogantor rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.’
(1 Corinthians 13 v4 -7 Bible ESV)

We know that our school will be a great place if everyone follows the guidance in the passage above. We strive to teach and live these values together. Everyone has a right to feel accepted and loved here at Fishponds.

We have a specific policy that outlines what we believe bullying to be and how we deal with any incidents.

We also have a child friendly version of our policy in a leaflet.

Anti-Bullying Week

Every year, we celebrate Anti-bullying Week.

We take part in the traditional odd socks day, and have even taken the chance to design our own pair of fabulous odd socks. Odd socks day introduces the children to the idea that it's okay to be different, and that we are all unique.

Our classes also take part in PSHE lessons focused on our theme of Anti-bullying. These sessions give students the opportunity to work with scenarios that allowed them to define and identify what bullying is. As well as how to be an upstander rather than a bystander.

In the past, some of the year groups have created kindness boxes to encourage pupils to write notes of kindness to other children in the school. These notes were then read out at the end of the week, giving students a well deserved boost.

Children in years 3 to 6 thave taken part in a competition to create their very own Anti-bullying superheroes. These superheroes had incredible powers of their own choosing, such as being able to sniff out bullying, being able to turn hurtful words into kind words as well as creating bubbles of kindness around those being bullied.

Our Anti-bullying week is a really important event that has helped make our pupils more aware of what bullying looks like, as well as what we can do to put an end to it.

 All Together Anti-bullying Project

We have been working on the All Together Anti-bullying project with Bristol City Council and are pleased to announce that we were awarded the Gold Award for our approach to Anti-bullying and for how we support pupil wellbeing.
