Design and Technology

Our intent at Fishponds CE Academy is deliver an inspiring, engaging and thorough Design Technology curriculum. We want our children to use their imagination to develop, plan and communicate solutions to real world problems. They will need to be able to adapt and change their designs with a view to the needs of others. We intend for our children to develop the skills and knowledge as set out in the National Curriculum. Our intention is for children to have many opportunities to create cross curricular links with other subjects, such as Science, Computing, Art and Mathematics. 

• A clear overview of the units to be taught in each year group, with a balance between different areas of the Design and Technology curriculum (textiles, mechanisms, structures, food and electrical systems) 

• Every project is built on the cycle of design, make and evaluate with opportunities to increase technical knowledge and skills thought taught sessions and independent practise. 

• There is a clear skills progression across the year groups to ensure that content builds on and complements previous learning and there are rigorously high expected outcomes for children. 

• Teachers are encouraged to block teach the units to give the children the requisite chance to embed skills and reflect on and evaluate their work. 

• There are frequent opportunities to teach and apply new skills and techniques and where necessary, appropriate health and safety skills.
